Neighbors & Friends,
We are in the last 30 Days of the
Campaign. It's been a long hard trip so far,
and it promises to be grueling down the home
stretch.
What's at the Finish Line is worth it,
though. When we get there the people of
Foster & Glocester, Richmond &
Charlestown, and all the other cities & towns
in Rhode Island's Second District will have the
Representation in Congress that they want.
In the week just past my campaign got some
attention for hosting a celebrity filled Fund
Raiser, in Westerly. Those that attended
heard Fox Commentator Dick Morris
analyze the national race and they heard RI
Governor Don Carcieri handicap the contest for the
2nd District Seat.
People around the state are beginning to
listen, this week's Newsletter will focus on what
we mean to tell them now that we've got their
attention.
Sincerely,
Mark
Zaccaria

| Bail Out, or Buy
Out? |
Since I announced my candidacy last March
I've been telling everyone who would listen that
the Economy is the most important asset of a free
America. It is also our greatest
protection against the concentration of power that
could strip us of our Liberty.
This week Rhode Island's entire congressional
delegation voted in favor of an open ended plan to
nationalize private property on a scale that
boggles the mind. If this had been done
using the government's authority under Eminent
Domain the legal term for it would be 'A
Taking.' Since this bill has been
characterized as the cavalry charging to the
rescue from over the hill there has been no outcry
against it in the press. Too bad.
Life is full of compromises, of course, but I
wish we had thought more about the pain we were
trying to avoid vs the pain we will now induce as
the federal government takes ownership of a giant
piece of the country.
Think about it. With plenty of
blame to go around in Congress you could make
a case that those who induced this crisis, through
misguided incentives to Fannie Mae and out-and-out
quotas for sub-prime mortgages to private banks,
have now taken management control of ⅓ of all
residential properties. In the military
the term for that is Screw Up & Move
Up. What kind of financial horsepower have
we just given to the Senate Banking Committee and
the House Financial Services Committee? What
will that kind of authority do to the men and
women who now hold its keys?
The bail-out package that we all cheered
across the Finish Line this week is a transforming
event in U.S. History.
It's passage into law raises the stakes
in the election that's now just a monthly
away. I contend that before you cast your
vote on November 4th you should think about who
you're nominating to handle that much raw
financial power. Choose wisely. If you
thought there was the possibility of mismanagement
before, just look at the temptations that are out
there now and vote like this was the last free and
fair election we were likely to see.

Mark's New Op-Ed? |
 One of the most important
ways that Mark can get his message out is through
Earned Media. That could mean coverage by
news organizations or editorial pick-ups in the
papers or on radio.
This weekend Mark submitted an opinion piece
on the differences between his own campaign and
that of his opponent. With any luck it will
run in a variety of the local and regional
newspapers around the District this week. It
will differentiate Mark from his opponent and it
might even get that guy on his left to come out of
the shadows and run on his record.
Or it might not.
